Gura Gear Et Cetera Review

The Et Cetera cases are the latest in a line of a innovative storage products from Gura Gear.  Late last year I purchased a number of these cases to solve my organisation woes. The Et Cetera cases are designed to provide organization options for, what we as photographers all seem to amass,  the collection of cables, batteries, flashes, triggers, widgets etc.  And boy do I have a collection of bits and bobs that I need to organise!

So I thought I’d share a little about the product itself, but also how I use these cases in my organisation regime.

Gura Gear Et Cetera Cases

Each case comes with a clear TPU (Thermoplastic polyurethane) micro mesh lid allowing you to view the contents of a case without opening it yet still providing good tear proof qualities.  This can make the search for gear so much easier when you have a number of similar sized cases, yet more importantly in the field it allows me to visual check off that I packed all my items back in cases without having to open the case.

Each cases is constructed from velocity nylon and is  lightly padded on all sides bar the lid, providing some protection to components but I wouldn’t classify these cases as overly protective cases but they do offer some element of basic protection to their contents.  The zippers of each case are the same highly quality reversed zippers as used on Gura Gear’s line of camera bags like my bag of choice, the Bataflae 32L, including the zipper loops making zipper use a breeze.

Inside the 2L and 3L cases are removal divider(s), one and three respectively. These dividers can be easily removed providing one large storage space or left in to help keep separate or constrain your widgets.  Inside each case is a nifty set of elastic loops which can be used to hold smaller batteries and other small components tightly to the side of the case.

Each cases come with a business card insert which is visible from outside of the case.  This can be great for inserting your business card.  I insert a business card in the card slot but I prefer to use it for a label identifying the contents of each case so I turn over my business card and use a marker to write a label on the reverse side giving me a useful label as well as a some identification should I misplace a case.  Each case has an external loop which can be used to easily hold bags or a number of bags or to hang bags on hooks etc.

So what practical applications have I got for the Gura Gear Et Cetera cases?   The large 3L is perfect for my GoPro and all the bits and bobs that go with it.  Logically one would think maybe the Medium 2L or the Smaller 1L cases would be more suitable for my GoPro but I’ve got more little pieces, batteries, chargers, cases, head strap, windscreen mount, etc than you can poke a stick at, so its the perfect size for my GoPro setup.

The Medium 2L case I use for storing all my external hard drives, card readers, USB hubs etc that I take on every expedition.  Whilst the Et Cetera cases themselves do not provide a lot in the way of protection themselves they are perfect for containment.  Each hard drive is individually enclosed in a foam casing to protect them from impact trauma and bundled into a 2L Et Cetera case they are kept safe confined and organised.  Perfect.

The Smaller 1L case comes in perfectly handy for my wireless remote triggers that I use or remote trigger flashes on shoots.  Just the perfect size for the transmitter, receivers and all the required cabling.  I also use one for storing my Tascam DR-40 Digital Audio Recorder and lapel microphone.

What’s great about these cases is that I store them on my shelves in my office. They look good, they stack neatly and I  can easily identify their contents by labels.

When packing for a shoot/expedition, its just a matter of selecting the right cases of the shelf and packing them into my roller duffle, backpack or hard cases.

So if you’re looking for a solution to your cable, battery, trigger, flash, widget nightmare then the Gura Gear Et Cetera Cases might be the solution for you.
